Madison Marquette Property Investments is looking for a Director of Accounting to support the District Wharf Community Association. The Association is responsible for the operations and maintenance of this spectacular new waterfront city destination, a mile-long stretch along the Potomac River with restaurants, retailers, residences, and businesses.

GENERAL SUMMARY:  Reporting to the VP of Wharf Accounting and supporting the Executive Director of the District Wharf Community Association, (“DWCA”), the Director of Accounting manages accounting, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. This position prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting packages for DWCA and prepares the annual budget while driving systems and process improvements. The Director of Accounting possesses superior knowledge about job responsibilities and exercises independent judgement to solve complex problems.

• Maintain a thorough understanding of DWCA’s activities and the Declaration of Covenants to ensure appropriate and comprehensive reporting of all transactions; including but not limited to: kiosk lease administration, Park Mobile, public space bookings, vertical CAM billings, shared utility billings, water-side revenue generation, marketing and event costs, 3rd party vendor costs, and other operational costs.
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings with proper documentation and reporting
• Coordinate monthly close processes with DWCA team
• Prepare analysis of actual vs. budget and forecasted results
• Submit timely reports to Executive Director and partners
• Supervise one accounting professional and provide individual goals, performance reviews, training and leadership in accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives
• Lead the annual budget process
• Head process and system improvements and documentation to operate with efficiency
• Maintain an effective internal control environment, including reconciliations and documentation of policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with established processes and controls; while assisting with implementation of new processes and controls where necessary
• Provide analytical and process support to DWCA as needed
• Assist with annual audit requirements and auditor information requests; including writing disclosures
• Assist with year-end tax compliance, sales & use filings, and all legal and corporate filings for DWCA
• Assist with weekly cash management reporting and cash flow projections
• Assist in the administration of the Association’s impairment and loss-prevention programs; as well as tracking Fixed Assets
• Responsible for management of the Accounts Payable and Receivable process ensuring timely payment of invoices and accurate monitoring of outstanding receivables
• Respond to inquiries regarding special financial reporting requests
• Other related duties and other DWCA event team responsibilities as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) in Accounting from a four-year college or university
• 9+ years of experience in accounting and financial reporting
• Real Estate accounting background highly preferred
• Corporate accounting background is highly preferred
• GAAP disclosure writing experience highly preferred
• Experience leading a team of accounting professionals
• CPA preferred, but not required
